Be sure your EnGage player has an internal wireless adapter before continuing.


Every EnGage player has configuration files which store all the setting for the player. These settings can be applied in the EnGage Content Manager or updated via a USB key connected to the player. Although any configuration file can be updated using a USB key, only the network settings should be changed using this method. Once the player connects to EnGage, the settings in EnGage will override the local USB key configuration changes. Applying settings via USB should only be used in situations where specific network settings are required for the player to connect for the first time. Be sure to add the network settings in EnGage prior to manually applying the wireless settings via USB key.


For example, a wireless connected player would require an SSID and wireless key settings updated via USB on the player before it can connect to EnGage to get its full settings. USB key configuration would also be required in network situations where the player needed a static IP address.  The network configuration file is named default.network and should be placed in the conf folder on the USB key.


When the player boots up and the EnGage software begins to load, the USB ports are checked for a USB key with the specific files and folder structures. If the files and folders exist, the player will copy the configuration files from the USB key, to the player for the USB key update process to work, the USB key needs to have specific files placed into specific folders. The update process will not work unless the exact file names and folder structure is used.


A USB hard drive can also be used as an alternative to using a USB flash memory key.

 

NOTE: Not all USB flash memory keys/drives will be compatible with all player types. It is highly recommended to test the key/drive you plan on using prior to attempting to use it in the field.

 

Setting up the USB configuration file

The examples below can be cut and pasted into a default.sitenetwork file. Manually alter these examples to suit your network requirements.  Only the highlighted items should be changed.


NOTE: When editing the default.network file, be sure to save the file in the same format and use the file name.

Wireless Modes:

The “Wireless Mode” setting in the configuration file sets the wireless encryption type. Use the following modes for the desired encryption type.

1 = NONE
2 = WEP
3 = WPA or WPA2

 

Applying the Wireless settings to the Player


Once the changes have been made to the default.sitenetwork file in the /conf directory on the USB key, insert the USB into the EnGage player. Reboot the EnGage player. When the player boots up, it will copy the network configuration file off the USB key onto the player. The player will use the applied wireless settings to connect to local wireless network and to EnGage. Once the player has fully booted, the USB key can be removed from the player.
